Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has vowed to take down the Obidient Movement, the political base of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Speaking with News Central on Thursday, March 27, Omokri revealed that his decision stemmed from alleged threats and harassment he faced from Obi’s supporters, both online and in person.
Omokri alleged that Obidient supporters trailed him and his wife while they were jogging in the UK and even showed up at his home. He claimed they sent multiple death threats, not just to him but also to his family, including his newborn daughter at the time.
“Peter Obi’s movement, Obidients, started attacking me, threatening me, insulting me. That was OK. But then they moved from myself to my family. I just had a daughter at that time. There were multiple death threats,” he said.
Omokri also claimed that he played a pivotal role in Obi’s political rise, stating that he was the one who recommended him as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“I took a vow to destroy that movement because Peter Obi was a project of mine. I was responsible for Peter Obi becoming the running mate to Waziri Atiku Abubakar in 2019. I’ve said this publicly. I’ve got the documents. I’m a meticulous record keeper,” he stated.
According to Omokri, despite his complaints, Peter Obi failed to intervene or condemn the alleged actions of his supporters. As a result, he has vowed to use every political tool at his disposal to dismantle the movement.
“They came to my house in the United Kingdom. They trailed my wife and me when we were jogging. They found out my jogging route and pursued me, threatening me… So I decided to use whatever political machinery I have to destroy that movement,” he said.
Omokri remains a vocal critic of the Obidient Movement and continues to challenge their political influence.
