As the annual Lisabi Festival continues to attract attention across Ogun State, the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government Hon. Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo has described Lisabi Festival as a “huge cultural explore” and stressed the need for sustainability.
The Chairman disclosed this during an interview with newsmen at the annual ceremony of Lisabi Festival held at Ake Palace , Abeokuta on Saturday.
According to him” Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South is the core of Egbaland, and there’s no way we can have something of this significant value without fully taking advantage of it.
“The celebration of Lisabi Festival is a huge cultural explore and we need to take advantage of it. We need to sustain it, we need to build around it,” he said.
As part of the festival, the Chairman featured among the “Aro Merin”representing Oke-Ona.
He also led the entire executive and legislative arm of Abeokuta North Local Government to pay homage to the paramount ruler of Egbaland, the Alake of Egbaland, and other prominent royal fathers including His Royal Majesty, the Olowu of Owu, the Osile of Oke-Ona, and the Agura-in-Council.
“This is something that we must celebrate, and we know that we don’t have any other place. This is our home and we just have to sustain it,” he added.
Also speaking, the APC Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, described the Lisabi Festival as a vital symbol of Egba cultural identity and unity.
She commended the organizers and traditional institutions for preserving the legacy of Lisabi, the legendary warrior and hero of the Egba people.
