The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially pegged 150 as the minimum cut-off score for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The decision was made on Tuesday, July 8, during the 2025 JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja, where key stakeholders and heads of tertiary institutions gathered to set admission standards for the new academic year.
According to JAMB, no university is allowed to admit candidates who score below 150 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
However, some top-tier institutions have opted for even higher benchmarks. For example:University of Ibadan,University of Lagos (UNILAG), and Pan-Atlantic University have each chosen 200 as their minimum score.
Meanwhile, some newly established private universities proposed 120 as their preferred threshold.
Though JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, initially recommended 160 as the cut-off for universities, the final consensus settled at 150.
Other approved cut-off marks across tertiary institutions include:

JAMB made the official announcement on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education, and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences by the stakeholders (Heads of Tertiary Institutions).”
As thousands of UTME candidates await the next phase of their admission journey, these new cut-off points will serve as a clear guide for determining eligibility across Nigeria’s higher institutions.
