Edo Is Not Your Father’s Property – Aisha Yesufu Fires Back at Governor Okpebholo Over Peter Obi Threat-OXYGIST

Popular activist and outspoken advocate for good governance, Aisha Yesufu, has come down hard on Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over his controversial statement aimed at Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast show on Monday, Aisha criticized the governor for threatening Obi’s safety and suggesting that he needs security clearance before visiting Edo State.

“I don’t know what gave the governor the audacity to think he can grant security clearance for any Nigerian to visit Edo. The state is not his family estate,” she fired.

Her response comes after Governor Okpebholo reportedly warned Peter Obi not to enter Edo State without prior notice or approval from his office, adding that the former Anambra governor’s security could not be guaranteed if he visited unannounced.

Yesufu wasn’t having it. She called the governor’s comments not only dangerous but also a direct threat to Obi’s life, warning that such statements undermine the rights of every Nigerian citizen.

“He said it loud and clear,‘your security won’t be guaranteed.’ That is a threat. Edo State doesn’t belong to him. Yes, he might be the current governor, but he has no legal right to give or deny access to anyone lawfully entering the state,” she emphasized.

Aisha further dismissed a follow-up statement from the Edo State government attempting to downplay the threat, insisting that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to freedom of movement within the country regardless of political affiliation.
