“Enjoy Your Adopted Country and Leave Nigeria Alone” — Shehu Sani Fires Back at Kemi Badenoch-OXYGIST

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has responded sharply to comments made by UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, urging her to focus on enjoying her life in the United Kingdom and stop dragging Nigeria into her personal concerns.

Badenoch sparked controversy during an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Sunday, where she expressed frustration over Nigeria’s citizenship laws. According to her, as a Nigerian-born woman, she is unable to pass on her citizenship to her children, which she described as unfair and discriminatory.

“It’s virtually impossible to get Nigerian citizenship,” Badenoch said. “I have it by birth through my parents, but I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman.”

She also compared Nigeria’s system with that of the UK, suggesting it’s far easier for Nigerians to gain British citizenship than it is for foreigners to become citizens of Nigeria.

“Loads of Nigerians come to the UK, stay for a short period, and get citizenship. We need to stop being naive.”But Sani wasn’t having it.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the outspoken ex-lawmaker slammed Badenoch for what he sees as hypocrisy and misplaced priorities.

“Why should Kemi Badenoch be bothered about getting Nigerian citizenship for her offspring from a country she rebuked and rejected?” Sani wrote.
“She should just enjoy her adopted home and leave us alone in our father’s house.”
