Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima recently made a low-profile trip to London to visit former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is reportedly recovering from a health scare.
According to sources, Buhari had earlier been placed in intensive care at a London hospital but is now said to be out of critical condition and responding well to treatment.
Shettima is believed to have flown out of Nigeria on Sunday night, June 29, and visited the former president the following morning, Monday, June 30, a source revealed to Daily Trust.
In addition to checking on Buhari, VP Shettima also stopped by to visit former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who is also in London.
The visit was kept private and not announced publicly, prompting questions from the media. When contacted, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed the trip but emphasized that it was a "totally private visit."
“Yes, the Vice President traveled to London, but it was strictly a personal and private trip,” Nkwocha said.
While no official statement has been made by Buhari’s media team, the news of his gradual recovery has been welcomed by many Nigerians, especially those loyal to the former president, who led the country from 2015 to 2023.
