The club says it has planted 150 trees in three secondary schools within Abeokuta metropolis.
The President of the club , Rotarian Oluwasegun Babarinde, disclosed this on Monday during a tree planting project organised by the club in collaboration with the State Government held at St Leo’s College, Onikoko, Abeokuta.
Babarinde appealed to other organisations to emulate the gesture in order to address any climate change disaster in the future.
The Principal Forestry Officer, Ogun State Ministry of Forestry, Mr Aliyu Mudashiru, noted that with the division of Ozone layer, there should be continuous planting of more trees in the environment.
“It will be good if other institution can also follow the suit of planting trees . The rate of deforestation is high so we need to plant more trees,” he said.
In her remarks, the Principal of the School, Mrs Olubola Akintayo , opined that trees remained part of the nature.
” We are so privilege to partake in this tree planting project by the Rotary club of Ibara. I am so glad that we are contributing to the sustainability of nature,” she said.
Akintayo , however, called on other Non Governmental Organisations ( NGO’s) to emulate the project executed by the Rotary Club of Ibara , Abeokuta in other areas of the environment.
