Osoba disenfranchised as BVAS failed at polling unit

Former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba was disenfranchised at his polling unit in Abeokuta, the state capital as the Bimodal Voters Biometric System (BVAS) at the polling unit failed.

The former Governor had earlier visited his pulling unit twice at the GRA ward 14 Ibara Unit 1 in Ibara Housing Estate Abeokuta but his face and fingerprints could not display on the BVAS machine and as a result, he was unable to exercise his franchise.

It was observed that  voters turned out in large numbers to cast their votes at the pulling unit but the former Governor was denied.

Speaking to journalists shortly after he was unable to exercise his civic duty, said he was disappointed with the situation, regretting that such happened despite having a valid PVC.

Osoba noted that he had earlier visited the Polling unit in the morning with the voters card he used for 2019 elections and he was denied to vote due to the failure of BVAS in capturing his face and fingerprints.

He further explained that he decided not to vote because he doesn't want a situation where BVAS will not capture a vote that is not captured in the unit.

He said "I have been here twice today and the BVAS failed. The BVAS captured my details. I have refused to vote, because it may lead to the cancellation of the turnout of voters in  this polling unit if I decide to vote.

"Despite the fact that my name and picture was on the voters register, and the card I used in 2019 successfully is the same card and this same unit.

"I don't want to vote because I don't want the BVAS to go and show an extra one vote cast that is not captured by the BVAS of this unit, so it is better for me to save hundreds of votes than to lose my one vote because I want to insist on voting.

"I feel very very sad, but I was encouraged with the turnout, and particularly many elders of 70 to 80 came out, which gives me confidence that APC is close to victory.

He however expressed confidence that INEC would review the technology fault and proffer solution.

He stated "I have confidence in INEC, it was just a technological failure, only two or three of us could not vote in this unit. Definitely we will do everything possible to make sure that the situation is reviewed  and ensure that the IT Centre makes sure that things work better.

He appealed to INEC to ensure that the voting period in places where elections started late was extended.

"In terms of peaceful conduct of the election and security, one is encouraged. I want to thank our people and congratulate them for their peaceful coexistence irrespective of whichever political party they are voting for."
