The marathon race was held as part of activities marking the 80th birthday of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
The race, which began in the Onikolobo area of the state and concluded at the Alake's palace in Ake, saw Peter Mwaniki of Kenya emerge as the winner, completing the race in 28 minutes and 33 seconds.
Other top finishers included Kennedy Kipyeko from Kenya in second place, Abraham Akobeche from Kenya in third place, Charity Agofure from Kenya in fourth place, and Francies James from Nigeria in fifth place. There were also participants like Mark Chen from Hong Kong, China, Viola Chelanga from Ethiopia, Stephen Joshua from Nigeria, Emmmanuel Gyamg from Nigeria, and more.
The athletes followed other routes that included Ibara roundabout, Isale-Igbein, Sapon, Ijemo, Itoko, Saje, Kugba, Adatan, and Isale Ake.
Prizes were awarded as follows: the first position received $5,000, the second position received $3,000, and the third position received $1,000, all in the form of checks.
During interviews with journalists, the athletes expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the roads in Ogun State, noting that it enhanced their race experience.
"The roads were very good, and it made the race much easier," said Chen. "I am very impressed with the infrastructure in Ogun State."
Peter Mwaniki agreed, saying that the good roads had helped him to achieve her best time in the marathon.
"I am very happy with my performance today," he said. "The roads were very good, and it helped me to run my best time. I will like to come here again for another marathon race"
