Ogun NAWOJ Inaugurates new executives , Calls for professionalism

The newly elected executives of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Ogun state chapter on Thursday took oath of office to steer the affairs of the association for another three years.

At a well attended swearing-in ceremony, held at the NUJ secretariat in Abeokuta, the state capital, the Vice President, Zone B of NAWOJ, Mrs Omobola Akingbehin urged the new executives as well as other female journalists in the state to embrace professionalism in the discharge of their journalistic duty.

Mrs Omobola Akingbehin Who represented the NAWOJ National President, Ladi Bala presented the certificate of office  the new executives - Sekinat Salam-Opebiyi, Chairperson; Oluwatoyin Adegoke, Vice Chairperson; Omobilaji Adekunle, Secretary and Adejoke Adeleye, Assistant Secretary expressed optimism that the association will take a better turn under the new leadership. 

Also, the new Chairperson of the association, Sekinat Salam-Opebiyi of Voice of Nigeria (VON) pledged to be dedicated and passionate in leading  Ogun NAWOJ to its eldorado .

Sekinat pledged her dedication to lead Ogun NAWOJ to success. She highlighted the importance of implementing social responsibility in journalism, advocating  violence against women and the girl child, and promoting increased women's representation in governance.
She emphasized that women journalists should uphold the ethics of journalism and strive to ensure the truth prevails.

 The chairperson also stressed the role of women journalists in their communities and their commitment to contributing to the nation's development. 

She called for unity and collaboration among NAWOJ members and promised to organize training programs, ensure welfare packages, and foster unity and love among members.

She therefore seek support from NAWOJ members and expressed her commitment to an open-door policy for ideas and collaborations aimed at uplifting NAWOJ in Ogun State. 

Her words "Our dear Ogun state is known for her uniqueness of being the first in every of human endeavours in Nigeria, please let's all come together and make it great again.

"To achieve this, we will facilitate trainings both internationally and locally. Also as part of my priority is to ensure good welfare packages for our members, and frequent organization of programmes of interest that would have positive impact on our daily activities as professionals.

"Most importantly, I promise to ensure continuous unity, equity and love among NAWOJ  members and journalism generally in Ogun State."

In his address, the chairman of Nigeria Union of journalists (NUJ) Ogun state , Comrade Wale Olanrewaju congratulated the new Excos and narrated what God has used him and his co-excos to do in the council.

He implored the new Excos to unite the Association and paint it with a new and a worthy face.

"I want to congratulate the new Excos, i want them to prepare for the work ahead. When we assume office as new excos of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) we met council divided but with the support of Almighty God and good leaders we were able to unite the council.

"I want to implore the new Excos to forget and foregone all what what might have happened during the process that brought you in and move on to the next level. 

"Do it with passion because it is a thankless job; nobody will thank you. I want a NAWOJ that I will rely on and please Carry everybody along. I pray to God to support you and i wish you a successful tenure."
