Speaking to the newsmen after the inspection tour to assess the ongoing road project, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori Oduntan, said the road is the first pilot project in the second term of the present administration, aimed at reducing farmer’s loss during harvest, promising construction of more rural roads.
She said the present administration is determined to make life more abundant for rural dwellers, hence the need to make infrastructural development abound in the suburbs.
The Commissioner who expressed her satisfaction with the level of work done, admonished the residents to maintain the road by desisting from dumping refuse in the drainages.
Lending his voice, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adetayo Adewale advised the residents to cooperate with the contractors handling the project in ensuring the successful completion of the road project and see it as an opportunity that would pave the way for more development in the community.
On his part, the Project Coordinator, Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project RAAMP Engr. Muritala Adekunle, whose agency is handling the project said it was strategic in addressing food shortage in the state and improving the economy of the rural communities, revealing that the road construction would be ready in 18 months' time.
Appreciating the state government for the laudable gesture, the Baale of Ijana-Alapako, Chief Adewale Adebisi said the road if completed would ease the transportation of farm produce from their community to the market, as well as open the area to more development.
It would be recalled that the ministry recently opened a bid for the award of 72.43-kilometer backlog maintenance of rural roads.
