Egba Economic Summit Urges Ogun Government to Prioritize Development in Egba Central

The Egba Economic Summit (EES) has urged the Ogun state government to include Egba central more in the affairs of the state.

Chief Sina Luwoye, the immediate past president of the summit made the appeal on Saturday during the annual general meeting held at its secretariat in Ibara housing estate Abeokuta, the state capital.

Luwoye, who is also the Asiwaju Mayegun of Egbaland explained that having sixty percent of the population, the Egba’s deserved a fair share of development in the state.

“ It  does appear that we are not getting a fair share of development that Egba land should be getting. We are unhappy that in most  state of the federation, the airport is built in the capital of those state and since 1976 that Ogun state was established every notable institution has always been taken from Egba land.

“ The largest stadium was built elsewhere outside the state capital and the first university established in the state was supposed to be in the central of the state like other states but this too was taken out of Abeokuta.

“ The same applies to the airport and this should not be so when we have sixty percent of the population.

“ We need more attention because the most progressive part of the state is the Egba Central and we are clamouring for the infrastructure of the Egba central because this is what the government can provide.

He pointed out that, in contrast to the state governors who takes development to their domain, the Egba Central only receives recognition from the federal government.

“ Only the federal government has been the one giving recognition to the Egba Central as the capital of the state but some successive government of the state has always been taking what belongs to Egba Central to their domain.

Also speaking, the newly elected president of the EES, Christopher Coker described Abeokuta as a work in progress adding that there is no limit to development as more can still be done.

While recounting some of his vision for the year 2024, Coker stated that the EES will investigate the impact of what is going on in the state.

“ Objectively , we will be looking at what is ongoing in town and we implore our political officials to do the right thing and we will call them to order if the case appears otherwise.

“ Looking at the political environment we have nominations,  the members of assembly, senate and the likes before elections they  promised to do certain things when elected so we are going to call them, question them and make them do what they promised to do on assumption to office. Our place is to tell them to do what they promised us."
