Suspected hoodlums attack, injure Amotekun personnel in Osun

 Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (rtd),  Osun State Commander of Amotekun Corps,  on Friday said his operatives were ambushed and injured by suspected hoodlums, during a visit to Osun State Polytechnic Iree.

According to a statement by Adewinmbi, the operatives of Amotekun Anti-Cultism Squad were waylaid on Thursday by hoodlums, suspected to be cultists, in Iree Town, while on their way to a meeting at the polytechnic campus.

"The corps received an invitation for a meeting from the polytechnic's Registrar, based on Amotekun Anti-Cultism Crusade on the campus and school community.

"The officers were, however, waylaid and attacked by suspected hoodlums/cultists in Iree Town,  while on their way for the meeting.

"The hoodlums in their large number were lead by one Seun Mukaila and Gbedu (well known cultists) in Iree.

"In the course of their attack, they tried to disarm the Amotekun operatives and during the struggle, one of the Amotekun men was stab in the arm and leg with a Knife.

"He was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment and responding to treatment." he said

The Amotekun commander  said the matter had been reported to the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit and that they have promised go after and apprehend the culprits.

He said no amount of intimidation and attacks on Amotekun operatives will deter the corps from fighting crime and criminals in the state.

He appealed to the state government to provide more equipment to the corps that will aid them in the fight against crime and criminality.
