Oyesiku made the remark while delivered a lecture on " Sustainable Leadership in Tertiary institution and the future of Nigerian development", during a valedictory programme held at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic campus in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Friday.
The lecture was organized in honour of Arc. Olatokunbo Fowode, the former Rector of the Polytechnic.
The former Vice Chancellor stressed that cultivating such leadership qualities is pivotal for nurturing a generation of leaders who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and resilient in facing challenges.
The concept of leadership elucidated by Prof. Oyesiku revolved around liberation, encouragement, achievement of purpose, development of people and teams, and setting an example for others.
The erudite professor equally stressed the importance of trust-based relationships, transparent governance structures, and prioritizing inclusive economic policies to bridge disparities and enhance development.
He urged for increased funding, fostering a culture of innovation, implementing transparent governance structures, and prioritizing inclusive economic policies.
Reflecting on Arc. Tokunbo Fowode's leadership tenure, Professor Oyesiku highlighted several transformative initiatives, including the establishment of an academic planning directorate, introduction of part-time programs, and reorganization of academic departments, among others.
Professor Oyesiku reiterated that the future of Nigerian development hinges on cultivating sustainable leadership within tertiary institutions.
His words "By embracing ethical governance, fostering innovation, engaging with communities, promoting environmental stewardship, and providing holistic education,these will pave the way for a generation of leaders who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and resilient in the face of challenges.
"Prioritizing sustainable leadership in tertiary education, we lay the groundwork for a brighter, more equitable, and prosperous future for Nigeria" he said.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ogun State Professor Abayomi Arigbabu expressed gratitude towards the student union for their unwavering support and understanding.
He reiterated his commitment to revitalizing the education sector across all levels, from primary to tertiary institutions, through the Ogun State Education Revitalization Agenda.
Highlighting the significance of this agenda, Professor Arigbabu emphasized the aim to transform educational institutions in the state, positioning them to reflect special arrangements aimed at enhancing the quality of education provided.
He stressed the importance of injecting life into the education sector, ensuring it thrives and meets the evolving needs of the community.
Reflecting on the contributions of Architect Fowode, Professor Arigbabu praised his dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
He noted the lasting impact Fowode made during his tenure as a lecturer and former Rector, leaving an indelible mark on the institution and shaping the minds of countless individuals.
His words "When you serve and you serve very well, it is much when you're in power. You don't enjoy being in power until you leave power. When you enter the institution and people still hail you, that's when you know the value of having been in power."
Earlier in his opening remarks, the rector of the institution Dr Adeoye Odedeji lauded the exceptional achievements of Architect Olatokunbo Ayodele Fowode, recognized for his transformative impact in his tenure at the polytechnic marked a period of significant progress and innovation.
Dr. Odedeji emphasized Fowode's profound influence, stating, "He came, saw, and conquered, allowing the systems to pass through him.
" Fowode's invaluable contributions were highlighted, with the rector affirming that his legacy would endure, serving as a continual source of inspiration for future endeavors."
