Ogun Youth Calls for Urgent Action from Government to Address Economic Challenges

In a remarkable display of unity and determination, the Coalition of Ogun State Youth Forums (COSYF) has called the federal and state government to address the economic challenges bedeviling the country .

The youth disclosed this during a press conference held at NUJ Secretariat Abeokuta,Ogun State.

The aggrieved youths presented a series of innovative proposals aimed at tackling the economic woes plaguing Nigeria, particularly its youth population.

Representing over thirty youth groups, COSYF articulated the shared grievances of the people and offered ingenious solutions to mitigate the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Acknowledging the prevailing economic challenges, especially amidst the ongoing global turmoil, the coalition emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue and proactive measures over disruptive protests.

Addressing the national leadership, COSYF's spokesperson, Comrade Fẹmi Owoẹyẹ, delivered a poignant message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to rise to the occasion and take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

Similarly, they commended Governor  Dapo Abiodun for his efforts in prioritizing the development of Ogun State while also highlighting the need for inclusive policies targeting the youth demographic.

Enumerating the real-life sufferings endured by Nigerians, including soaring inflation rates, widespread unemployment, and escalating insecurity, COSYF proposed a comprehensive set of solutions and policy suggestions.

The policies include reopening international borders to stimulate economic growth, incorporating non-state actors into palliative committees, and providing one year of free health insurance for all residents.
The coalition also advocated for the establishment of a well-managed food bank system, subsidization of transportation costs, grants for small and medium-scale enterprises, and the development of robust job creation programs.

In a bid to bridge the communication gap between the government and the youth population, COSYF requested a quarterly Youth Parley with Governor Dapo Abiodun to enhance awareness of opportunities and solicit feedback directly from the people.

The youth  proposed one-month deadline for the government to initiate and implement these proposals, reflecting a commitment to the well-being and prosperity of citizens.

The coalition in its message to Tinubu said "Your Excellency, We acknowledge the weight of your office and the immense responsibilities that come with it. As we stand here today, we do so not only as citizens of Ogun State but as representatives of the collective aspirations of Nigerian youth nationwide.
It's imperative that we call your attention to the obvious hardship and agony of Nigerians under your watch.

"It is essential that crucial decisions are made and implemented urgently to alleviate the pains of Nigerians.

"Therefore, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; you must rise up to your responsibilities and do more for Nigerians.

Addressing Governor Abiodun, the youth stated "Your Excellency, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, we commend your leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ogun State. Your efforts in prioritizing the development of our state have not gone unnoticed, and we recognize the strides made under your administration.

"However, it is essential to call your attention to the plight of the indigent  Ogun State residents and citizens alike who are grappling with the unfavorable economic realities.

"We received the news of your palliative(intervention) measures with gladness and gratitude, but we must point out that there is no clear cut mechanism to capture the youth constituency in the various state initiatives, interventions and measures.

" The average, self employed and out of school youth is not directly captured in the initiative. This is a huge lacuna that must be corrected immediately to avoid future complications. This can be effected by the creation of a truly youthful committee to see to this."
