EFCC Cracks Down on Internet Fraud, Arrests 11 in Uyo-OXYGIST

In a major crackdown, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 11 individuals in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, for alleged internet fraud. The arrests took place along Ikpa Road, following credible intelligence on their suspected fraudulent activities, lavish lifestyles, and extravagant displays of wealth at local events.


The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, announced the arrests in a statement on Monday. The suspects, consisting of nine males and two females, were apprehended in a fleet of cars, highlighting their opulent lifestyles.

According to the statement, the vehicles recovered from the suspects include:

  • Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (ABC 553 LD, Abuja)
  • Toyota Camry LE (KKN 48 AE, Akwa Ibom)
  • Two Honda Accords (LSR 754 AQ and LSR 475 FN, Lagos)
  • Toyota Saloon (RBC 1898J, Abuja)
  • Lexus 300 Saloon (JJJ 423 JK, Lagos)

Additionally, the EFCC seized 15 smartphones and 10 bundles of N200 notes from the suspects.


The EFCC has assured the public that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigations are completed.
