Gunmen Strike Again in Ondo: 18-Year-Old Farmer Killed, Suspect Arrested-OXYGIST

In a tragic incident, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the killing of a young farmer, Joshua Gbadamosi, in Ifira Akoko, located in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area.

Gbadamosi, an 18-year-old farmer, was found dead on his farm at Ogudu Farm Settlement on Tuesday, just five days after another farmer, Sunday Ayeni, was allegedly murdered on his farm by armed assailants suspected to be herdsmen.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, verified the arrest, stating that a 15-year-old suspect, Adamu Farouk, is currently in custody as the investigation continues. “Yes, the incident occurred, and we have arrested one Adamu Farouk, aged 15. An investigation has commenced,” she said.

Gbadamosi's lifeless body was discovered with machete wounds, a source revealed. The police later recovered his body from Isua Akoko and transferred it to the morgue at Ipe Akoko General Hospital.

Reacting to the incident, Oba Victor Adetona, the monarch of Ogbagi Akoko and chairman of the Akoko Divisional Council of Obas, condemned the killing, describing it as "callous, wicked, and unacceptable." He expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, which he said is forcing farmers to abandon their lands. The monarch called on the government and security agencies to step up their efforts to restore peace and security in the region, warning that the continued neglect of the situation could have severe repercussions for the community and beyond.
