The Lagos State Government (LASG) has strongly condemned the recent attacks on passengers and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses by hoodlums, describing the incidents as alarming and intolerable. The government has issued a stern warning to those responsible, urging them to cease their criminal activities immediately.
Mr. Idowu Oguntona, Managing Director and CEO of Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), expressed the government's outrage in a statement released on Wednesday by the company's Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Afolabi Olawale. Oguntona highlighted the growing trend of these attacks, labeling them as both unacceptable and inhumane.
"The Lagos State Government will not stand by and allow such acts of lawlessness and criminality to persist," Oguntona declared.
Detailing the latest incident, Oguntona explained that a BRT bus traveling from Mile 2 to Leventis was ambushed by a large mob near the Ore-Ofe bus stop on the Orile axis. The bus, carrying 35 passengers, was suddenly swarmed by the attackers, who proceeded to assault the passengers, stabbing them with sharp objects, and robbing them of their phones and valuables.
Oguntona condemned the attack, stating, "These criminals, who cannot be considered true Lagosians but rather agents of chaos, have no place in any decent society."
He reassured Lagos residents that their safety remains the top priority for LBSL and emphasized that security agencies are actively pursuing those responsible for the heinous act. Oguntona issued a strong warning to anyone contemplating such despicable actions, making it clear that these behaviors will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
"The Lagos State Government is fully committed to taking all necessary legal measures to protect both residents and visitors. There is no need for fear; we assure all commuters of their safety while using public transportation in Lagos State," Oguntona added.
