The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has placed sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests on a security watchlist, announced Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap at Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
During a strategic meeting convened by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Nandap revealed that individuals funding the protests from the Diaspora will be apprehended upon entering Nigeria.
This move follows a closed-door meeting between the Defence Chief, intelligence heads, and security agencies to enforce President Bola Tinubu's crackdown order.
"We have Diaspora sponsors on our watchlist. Any attempt they make to enter the country will be flagged, and they will be detained and handed over to the appropriate authorities," Nandap stated, addressing questions from the press.
In response to the protests, the Immigration Service has increased its personnel at land borders and airports to strengthen control over the nation's entry and exit points. Nandap emphasized the agency's enhanced surveillance to prevent foreign interference in Nigeria's affairs.
Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, represented by DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, disclosed that the agency has identified some sponsors and has already blocked several bank accounts linked to them. However, further details were not provided.
Bichi added that these account operators, many of whom reside abroad, are under constant surveillance.
