A Nigerian lady, Akintade Adepemi, has shared a harrowing experience of how she and her friend, Olamide, narrowly escaped death after the commercial bus they were riding in caught fire in Lagos, just weeks before their university graduation.
In a video posted on social media, Adepemi captured the chaotic scene as passengers frantically jumped out of the burning vehicle, while others were pulled to safety by bystanders. The incident occurred as they were heading to Oshodi to pick up fabrics for their final year graduation party.
Reflecting on the terrifying event, Adepemi expressed her gratitude to God for their miraculous survival. "God did this! Honestly, we still can’t fathom how we are still alive today," she wrote in her post.
She recounted how they had boarded the bus at Oshodi (Bolade), intending to collect Ankara cloth for their Owambe party. Just before reaching the bridge, the bus suddenly caught fire. In the midst of the chaos, Adepemi and Olamide somehow managed to escape, though they still can’t comprehend how they survived such a close call.
"How we jumped out, we don’t know. How we are still here today, we can’t comprehend. It is definitely not by our power, not by our might," she wrote. Adepemi explained that in the midst of the panic, she asked Olamide to record a video, feeling an inexplicable urge to document the moment. She believes that this urge was driven by a higher purpose, leading them to share their testimony.
"God kept us. He made sure that we stayed alive to witness our sign-out and many more. For us, this sign-out is not just about graduating from school; it’s God showing Himself as the author and finisher of our faith."Adepemi concluded her post by saying, "In case you see us undignified, no vex. It’s because the number of our scars are the number of our testimonies."
