The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the tragic deaths of several individuals, including a lecturer from the Federal University, Wukari, and the Deputy Registrar of the Taraba State School of Health Technology, Takum. The victims were among those ambushed by gunmen on the Takum-Wukari road early yesterday.
Speaking on the incident, DSP Kwache Gambo, the acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba Police Command, verified the casualties during a telephone interview.
Reports indicate that six passengers and their driver were brutally killed in the attack, which occurred at the boundary between Taraba and Benue states along the Takum-Wukari route.
Among the victims was a secondary school principal who had recently been transferred from a school in Takum to a new position in Wukari Local Government Area. Tragically, he was on his way to report to his new post when his life was cut short.
Another victim, a lecturer from the Federal University, Wukari, was reportedly returning to Wukari after spending the weekend with his family in Takum when the attack occurred.
In response to the violence, local sources have indicated that soldiers were deployed to patrol the surrounding areas in a bid to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
