Mighty Jets Set Sights on Samson Siasia for Head Coach Role as FIFA Ban Nears End-OXYGIST

Mighty Jets, a historic club in the Nigeria National League (NNL), are reportedly in discussions to appoint former Super Eagles coach and Nigeria international Samson Siasia as their new head coach.

As Siasia’s five-year FIFA ban draws to a close at the end of this month, the former football star is preparing for a comeback to the sidelines. The ban, initially imposed as a lifetime sentence for alleged involvement in match-fixing, was later reduced to five years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Siasia is negotiating a monthly salary of ₦10 million, a figure that Mighty Jets are hopeful to finalize as they look to benefit from his extensive experience.

Mighty Jets, a club with a rich history as the inaugural winners of the Nigerian League in 1972, are keen on bringing in Siasia to rejuvenate their squad. If the deal is sealed, it will mark Siasia’s second stint as a coach for a professional club in Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Siasia has been a prominent figure in Nigerian football, particularly with the country’s youth and senior national teams. He gained significant recognition for leading the Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, to the final of the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup and winning the U-20 African Youth Championship the same year. Although they narrowly missed out on the world title to Argentina, Siasia's leadership was widely praised.

Siasia also left his mark on the Nigeria U-23 team, guiding them to a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and later securing a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. His coaching resume includes a tenure with Heartland F.C., a brief period as the head coach of the Super Eagles, and the founding of the SiaOne Soccer Academy in Abuja, which is dedicated to developing young football talent.

As Mighty Jets consider Siasia for the head coach role, they are looking to tap into his vast knowledge and experience to steer the club toward success.
