Onuoha Moses Chidi, a key figure in the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, has issued a stern warning to lawmakers elected under the party's banner, cautioning them that relying solely on the popularity of Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti won't guarantee their re-election in 2027.
On Monday, Chidi expressed disappointment with many of the current legislators, both in the Abia State House of Assembly and the National Assembly, for not meeting the expectations of their constituents. According to Chidi, several lawmakers are hoping to ride on the coattails of Obi and Otti’s influence without delivering real results.
He emphasized that voters will only support those who prove themselves through solid performance and meaningful contributions, not those who fail to make an impact.
"Any lawmaker banking on the popularity of Governor Alex Otti and Mr. Peter Obi to secure re-election will face a rude awakening in 2027," Chidi stated. "We will support candidates who deliver for the people, not those who hide from their responsibilities."
As the Coordinator of the Liberation Movement in Umuahia, Chidi stressed that Abia’s voters would be more discerning come 2027, favoring only lawmakers who prioritize the needs of their constituents by attracting critical projects and maintaining accessibility.
“Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti enjoy their popularity due to their achievements, but lawmakers must work diligently to bring life-changing initiatives to their communities if they want to stand a chance in the next election,” he concluded.
