The event, which took place Friday at Idiroko, saw awarding scholarships and distribution of palliatives to support students of Nigerian customs school and the families of customs officers, furthering COWA's mission of community empowerment.
In her address, Adeniyi revealed that 27 secondary school students and 27 primary and nursery school pupils were awarded scholarships in recognition of their academic excellence.
Alongside the scholarships, the students were also provided with mathematical sets and exercise books to aid their studies.
"We are committed to the education of our children , I encourage them to focus on their education, choose their friends wisely, and remember that they are the future of this nation."
"I'll encourage the women to stay strong for their children and for the kids have told them that drug is no food , they need to focus on their education and be obedient to their parents."
Adeniyi also highlighted COWA’s ongoing efforts to support widows of customs officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
She said palliatives were given to Fifty widows as a gesture aimed at reminding them that they remain integral members of the COWA community.
"We see the widows as still part of us in COWA, I encourage the women to stay strong for their children, and we will continue to provide them with the support they need."
The President also inspected an ongoing school project within the command and reaffirmed COWA’s commitment to complete the building.
Adeniyi acknowledged the significant challenges faced by customs officers stationed in border regions like Idiroko, where smuggling and cross-border crime are rampant.
She praised the officers of the Ogun 1 Area Command for their courage and dedication to securing Nigeria’s borders, while also recognizing the emotional and psychological toll that such responsibilities place on their families.
" I am deeply aware of the unique challenges faced by the families of our customs officers, particularly those stationed in difficult border regions like Idiroko. The constant battle against smugglers, traffickers, and criminals often takes a toll not just on the officers but on their families as well.
"As wives and mothers, we know firsthand the anxieties, fears, and sacrifices that come with having our loved ones on the frontlines. The threat of danger is ever-present, and the pressure on their shoulders can sometimes weigh heavily on us too-But I stand here today to encourage each and every one of you to remain steadfast.
"Your unwavering support is not just a comfort to them, but a vital source of inspiration that helps them carry out their duties diligently."
Adeniyi emphasized the importance of capacity-building programs for COWA members, encouraging them to pursue personal development through education, training, and entrepreneurship.
"Let us not forget that when women grow, families thrive, and societies prosper. I urge this chapter to actively participate in the capacity-building programs we offer and to explore new ways of developing your potential."
In his remarks, Controller of Ogun 1 Area Command, Comptroller James Ojo, expressed his gratitude for COWA’s unwavering support.
Ojo said"Since your coming on board, there has been significant transformation and progress," Ojo said.
"I commend you for the work you have done and continue to do for the families of customs officers."
In her welcome address, Princess Folu-Ojo Adenike, Chairperson of the COWA Ogun 1 Chapter applauded the organization’s dedication to support both active and fallen officers' families.
"As we gather here, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by our officers. For the wives and children of our serving officers, your leadership, Madam President, reassures them that while their husbands and fathers protect the borders, we, as an association, are committed to protecting their families."
" Madam President, Your dedication has given them the courage to move forward, knowing that they are never alone."
The event's highlight featured a vibrant cultural dance display performed by the students.
