The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, has charged political parties to campaign with all their might and power ahead of the local government elections scheduled for November 16.
Osibodu made the charge on Monday during a stakeholders' meeting held at the commission's secretariat with political parties in Abeokuta , Ogun State.
He noted that opposition parties did not campaign effectively in the 2021 elections, hence they lost in the exercise.
His words: "I want to urge you today to campaign with all your might, with all your power," Osibodu said. "If you accuse the electoral umpire without doing your best to win the election, you have accepted defeat before the contest."
He encouraged parties to put in effort to convince their electorate that they are better than their opponents and to bring out their supporters on election day.
Osibodu added "We are determined to conduct elections that are not just free and fair but are seen to be free and fair.
"But if you continue to say that only the ruling party has won in the past and therefore you will not contest or campaign, it will not change.
"You need to come out boldly without violence, do not be afraid of the security forces, bring your supporters out on election day, you will be protected and your vote will be protected, that's my guarantee to you."
Osibodu also advised parties to send their agents to polling units to sign and verify results.
