The Ondo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, has rescued four abducted travellers and apprehended two suspected kidnappers along the Owo/Ose highway.
The Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, who led the operation alongside local hunters, shared details of the raid at the command’s headquarters in Akure. He revealed that the suspects had been terrorizing commuters and farmers on the Elegbeka/Ifon road and had previously collected a ransom of ₦1.2 million from victims in August.
Adeleye explained that the operation was triggered by reports of a kidnapping incident a day before. "Our team quickly mobilized and, with the help of local hunters, combed the forest where the victims were being held. By the end of the day, we successfully rescued four people," he said.
The Commander confirmed that the kidnappers engaged in a shootout with Amotekun operatives but were eventually captured alive. "These are no longer just suspected kidnappers—they are confirmed criminals," Adeleye said, referring to the suspects identified by their victims during the operation.
One of the arrested suspects had blocked a portion of the road with a vehicle to slow down commuters and make them vulnerable to ambush. This same individual had earlier extorted ₦1.2 million from a family in August and was caught demanding another ₦20 million ransom before the Amotekun operatives intervened.
“This arrest sends a clear message: there is no hiding place for kidnappers in Ondo State anymore,” Adeleye stated. “We will keep working tirelessly to ensure that criminals face justice and that our communities remain safe."
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care and psychological support as they recover from their traumatic experience. The arrested suspects are in custody and will face legal proceedings in the coming days.
With this operation, Ondo State security agencies have reinforced their commitment to making the state a dangerous ground for criminals. "Every criminal in Ondo State should know—we will find you, and justice will be served," Adeleye concluded.
