Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in regarding his ongoing case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to a statement signed by Bello’s media aide, Ohiare Michael, the recent actions and public statements from the EFCC appear to be driven by personal motives rather than a genuine fight against corruption.
The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted, sparking widespread media coverage. However, reports revealed that the former governor voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters and was later allowed to leave without any formal charges. This development has raised suspicions about the true intentions of the anti-corruption agency.
"If the EFCC was serious about prosecution, wouldn't they have taken action on the day he appeared?" the statement questioned, hinting at possible hidden agendas behind the agency's conduct.
Bello’s media team accused the EFCC of engaging in a “hatchet job,” and urged President Tinubu to intervene, emphasizing the need for fairness in the fight against corruption. The statement stressed that the anti-corruption crusade must be just and inclusive, ensuring that no one is unfairly targeted for political reasons.
"Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians," the statement concluded, calling for balanced governance and transparency in the country’s fight against corruption.
