Fulham’s Alex Iwobi has been quietly making an impact in the Premier League this season, becoming one of the league’s top midfielders for progressive passes into the final third, according to Soccernet.ng. The Nigerian international has outperformed high-profile midfielders, including Tottenham’s James Maddison, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, and Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic, in successful forward passes.
Sky Sports reports that Iwobi has completed an impressive 241 progressive passes through opposing defenses. This achievement places him second only to Kevin De Bruyne, despite De Bruyne playing just four games this season due to injury.
Iwobi has started all nine of Fulham’s league matches, scoring twice and providing one assist. His latest goal came in a 1-1 draw at Everton, his former club. Reflecting on the goal, Iwobi admitted he knew how to catch Everton’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, off guard.
“It’s bittersweet to score at Goodison Park. I have so much respect for them, which is why I didn’t celebrate,” he explained post-game. On his goal, Iwobi shared, “I tried to create space in the box and stay composed. I know Jordan well and aimed for the near post, which worked out.”
Despite his standout performances, Iwobi remains focused on Fulham’s overall success. “Whether I score or not, my priority is to help the team get three points. It felt like a loss, but the manager told us to be proud of our performance.”
Fulham currently sits 10th in the Premier League with 12 points from nine games, aiming to climb higher as Iwobi continues to drive their offense forward.
