In a disturbing incident in Ibadan, an Okada rider identified as Kazeem has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a female passenger. According to the Oyo State Police Command, the woman, who had just arrived in the city from Lagos, hired the motorcycle to take her from Olorunsogo to Adeshina. However, the suspect diverted from the planned route, taking her to an unfamiliar location.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, explained that the incident occurred on October 17 around 10:15 p.m. “The suspect claimed he was stopping by his wife’s shop but instead took the passenger to a different area, where he reportedly forced himself on her,” Osifeso shared.
During questioning, Kazeem claimed the encounter was consensual, despite the medical report revealing bruises and injuries that indicated otherwise. Police recovered items, including the victim’s undergarments, as evidence.
Speaking to journalists, Kazeem said, “She told me she was unfamiliar with Ibadan and asked for help finding a place to stay overnight. After buying her food, I took her to my wife’s shop in Olorunsogo.” He later added that his wife, upon hearing of the arrest, was devastated.
