Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has issued a striking 12-hour ultimatum to cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, demanding a retraction of defamatory statements and a public apology. Failure to comply could lead to legal action and substantial financial repercussions.
The ultimatum was conveyed through a letter dated October 14, 2024, and signed by legal representatives Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle from Falana and Falana Chambers. In their letter, Falz's legal team insisted that Bobrisky not only retract the false claims but also issue a written apology across all platforms where the allegations were made.
The dispute erupted when Bobrisky accused Falz of attempting to secure a presidential pardon from his father, renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, in exchange for N10 million. However, Falz's representatives firmly denied these accusations, revealing that it was Bobrisky who had sought financial assistance from Falz, which was ultimately declined.
In the letter titled “Demand for Withdrawal and Retraction of Defamatory Statements Against Mr. Folarin Falana (aka Falz),” the rapper accused Bobrisky of exploiting his recent legal troubles to mislead the public. The letter stated, “It is evident that you took advantage of your recent imprisonment to extort money from artists and the public.”
Falz’s team further clarified that on May 4, 2024, Bobrisky had approached Falz for N3 million to secure a special placement in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, a request that was denied. Bobrisky later claimed in a video that Femi Falana had agreed to write a pardon letter on his behalf, a statement Falz’s lawyers categorically refuted.
The letter warned that if Bobrisky does not issue the required retraction and apology within the specified 12 hours, legal proceedings will be initiated, potentially resulting in significant damages.
In related news, a Lagos State High Court recently ordered popular blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, to remove defamatory content about Falz from all social media platforms within 21 days, prohibiting further defamatory statements until the matter is resolved.
