Five Arrested in Connection with Fisherman’s Alleged Murder in Ogun State-OXYGIST

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended five suspects over the alleged murder of a fisherman, Segun Sikiru, in the Iwopin community of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects—Saheed Mureni, Afeez Mureni, Saheed Taidi, Thompson Samuel, and Ogoji Olorunwa—were arrested on Sunday, September 29, 2024, by operatives of the Abigi Police Division after the victim’s family filed a complaint.

It was gathered that the tragic incident unfolded when Sikiru and his two sons went fishing and noticed suspicious activity near their fish trap, known as Iki. Upon closer inspection, they discovered the suspects allegedly stealing from their trap.

In an attempt to confront the suspects, Sikiru was attacked. The suspects allegedly struck him in the chest with a bamboo stick, causing him to lose consciousness. His two sons managed to flee the scene, but tragically, the suspects disposed of Sikiru’s body by throwing it into a nearby lagoon.

Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed that the body of the deceased had been recovered and taken to a mortuary in Ijebu-Ode. “The five suspects have been arrested, and investigations are currently ongoing,” she stated.
