The Lagos State Task Force has issued a strong warning to residents against holding events on public roads, as it disrupts traffic and inconveniences other road users. This warning comes just days after five individuals were arrested on Raymond Njoku Road in Ikoyi for blocking the street to host a birthday party.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared news of the recent arrests on his social media, underscoring the government’s commitment to curb such activities. The Task Force, led by Chairman Adetayo Akerele, highlighted concerns about the increasing trend of residents using public spaces for personal gatherings, including social and religious events.
Akerele emphasized, “It is unacceptable for anyone to occupy public roads intended for free movement, whether for private or group interests. We’re committed to preserving environmental order and ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the state.”
The Task Force also noted that similar events have been observed on Lawani Street in Yaba, Ganiyu Lamina Street in Ijaye Ojokoro, and various other locations across Lagos. Residents involved in such practices have been urged to stop immediately or face legal action.
