Nigerian doctor, Obianma Onya, has expressed her frustration with people who overlook others' accomplishments and needs while they’re alive but rush to mourn them after their death. She called this behavior hypocritical and urged people to change their ways.
In a post shared on Friday, Onya didn’t hold back, stating: “It’s a sad reality in our society where we ignore each other—failing to acknowledge accomplishments, needs, or requests while we’re still alive. But the moment someone dies, we flock like witches to ‘mourn’ or even celebrate, sometimes smiling and taking selfies at funerals while demanding food and drinks.”
She went on to condemn this practice, calling it “the height of hypocrisy and wickedness.”
Onya emphasized that the relationship someone had with the deceased during their life should reflect how they mourn them. “If I never celebrated you in life, I won’t mourn you in death,” she declared, urging people to stop turning funerals into casual social events. "Funerals are meant to be solemn, not a celebration or a party."
