In a startling revelation, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has disclosed that a substantial number of illicit weapons circulating in Nigeria originally belonged to the Federal Government. Speaking at an arms destruction event held by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja, Ribadu highlighted the concerning issue of weapon proliferation.
He pointed out that these weapons have fallen into the hands of non-state actors, largely due to corruption within security agencies. Ribadu condemned security personnel who enable the distribution of arms to terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability.
The NSA reassured the public that the government is committed to enhancing the country’s security and will take necessary measures to prevent further misuse of weapons.
