Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Olajade Lookman has opened up about the pivotal role his mother played in shaping his successful football career. The 26-year-old star had an impressive season, leading Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 final and celebrating a UEFA Europa League victory with Atalanta.
After scoring a hat-trick in the final, Lookman shared the joy of that moment with his mother and childhood coach. In a recent interview with L’Équipe, he expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices his “Superwoman” made to help him succeed.
“I lived with my mom and sister, which helped me understand women better. My dad and other sister were in Lagos, Nigeria. My mother worked tirelessly to ensure that my upbringing wasn’t affected by our situation. As the only boy in the family, I received immense love and support,” Lookman said. “Without a father figure, things can get complicated, but my mom created a nurturing environment for my sister and me. When my sister went to university, Mom was exceptional, taking on many roles. I always call her Superwoman because she truly is incredible. I’ll always be indebted to her.”
With his outstanding performances, Lookman has not only gained recognition but is also a frontrunner for the CAF Player of the Year award and a nominee for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
