The Chairman of the Ogun Youth Assembly Ambassador Habeeb Whyte has called for state governments across Nigeria to engage in dialogue with the youth at the local level, urging that solutions to the nation’s challenges should be addressed locally before the federal government steps in.
Speaking during a live program on Rock City FM on Tuesday , Whyte emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is perceived as a "listening government."
He referenced the aftermath of the #EndBadGovernance protests that brought about the issue of CONFAB.
Whyte noted that Ogun State was the only state that did not witness protests during that time, due to youth leaders advocating for dialogue over confrontation.
“The governor promised us that there would be dialogue, and while we haven’t seen this come to fruition yet, we remain hopeful,” Whyte stated.
He emphasized the importance of engaging youths at the local level, stressing that state governors should be the first to initiate discussions before the federal government gets involved.
“Our problems are local, so we should give them local solutions. Let the governors be at the forefront of the dialogue and conversation,” he said.
Whyte also called on all state governments in Nigeria to involve their respective Ministries of Youth and Sports in facilitating dialogue with young people across various local governments and wards.
According to him, this grassroots engagement would allow for more effective solutions to the issues facing Nigerian youths.
