Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the trailblazing leader of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has been reappointed for a second term as Director-General, the global trade body announced on Friday.
As the first woman and first African to helm the WTO, Okonjo-Iweala has made history once again by securing another four-year term. The organization confirmed the decision in a statement, saying, “WTO members today agreed to give incumbent Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala a second term as Director-General of the WTO.”
Her new term is set to commence on September 1, 2025, ensuring that her transformative leadership continues to shape global trade policy and foster international cooperation.
