The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified why popular social media influencer Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was re-arrested in Lagos. The incident occurred Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport as Bobrisky attempted to board a KLM flight bound for London via Amsterdam.
According to a senior EFCC official, Bobrisky’s detention follows his repeated failure to respond to multiple summonses regarding allegations he made against the commission. The controversial personality had previously accused EFCC officials of bribery and corruption, claiming he paid N15 million to have money laundering charges dismissed.
The EFCC firmly denied these claims, stating they are false and potentially libelous, and they may lead to additional charges. “We detained him in Lagos, and he will be transported to Abuja,” an EFCC source revealed.
“He made serious accusations against us, yet he ignored our summons to provide evidence. Allegations of this nature cannot go unexamined, and Bobrisky has also declined to appear before the National Assembly to address this matter. We had no choice but to take him into custody to ensure he substantiates these claims.”
