Despite the challenges, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido is grateful for his enduring success after over a decade in the spotlight.
The popular artist recently looked back on his 14-year career, acknowledging the toll it’s taken but making it clear he’s not stopping anytime soon. “Six kids later, I’m a father, a husband... I feel like I’m 60,” Davido said. “Since I started at 17, I’ve been through so much, visited countless places, met all kinds of people, and had experiences that many never get. It’s been a journey.”
Even with the pressures of fame, Davido remains grateful for his longevity. “We’re blessed. Not many can stay relevant for 14 years and still be on top; it’s rare. So to still have this opportunity is a blessing,” he expressed.
Reflecting on what’s kept him going, Davido credits his deep-rooted passion for music. “Everyone’s journey is different. I came into this just loving music. I didn’t need money or anything else; I just had a pure love for music and entertainment. I knew I had something unique to offer, and I believe that’s what kept me going.”
With a future full of possibilities, Davido reassured fans that he has no plans to slow down. “I’ve been at this for 13, 14 years, and I’m not bored—not even a little. Retirement isn’t on my mind right now; we’re still moving forward. There’s still so much to achieve.”
Looking to his legacy, Davido hopes to inspire those who follow. “When we’re done, we’ll leave a blueprint for the next generation, who’ll do the same for those after them. I’m just proud we helped open the door.”
