Kaduna Community Urgently Calls for Military Intervention Amid Rising Bandit Attacks-OXYGIST

The residents of Dokan Karji, a community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have issued a desperate plea to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Federal Government, urging them to deploy additional military forces to curb the unrelenting wave of kidnappings and killings by bandits.

In a statement released on Monday by Aminu Khalid, the community’s youth leader, residents expressed their growing fear and frustration over the escalating insecurity in the area, which has forced many to abandon their homes in search of safety.

According to Khalid, bandit attacks have devastated the region, leaving more than 14 villages overrun and vulnerable. He revealed shocking figures, stating that over 50 lives have been lost and more than 170 individuals abducted since April. Some victims have been held captive for over six months, with families collectively paying over ₦700 million in ransom.

Once a thriving farming hub, Dokan Karji has now become a hotspot for bandit activity. Khalid lamented that the absence of adequate military protection has emboldened the criminals, leading to frequent attacks and the displacement of hundreds of residents.

“The recent attack on farmers is a grim reminder of how dire the security situation has become in our area. Families continue to suffer heartbreaking losses, and our community’s survival depends on immediate intervention,” Khalid said.

The community leader called on the Chief of Defence Staff and the Federal Government to urgently step in and save the endangered villages. “Our people have endured brutal attacks for too long. We need the military to act swiftly to restore peace and protect our lives,” he pleaded.

Despite the dire situation, Khalid praised the efforts of Lt. Col. Osuake, the Sector 7 Commander, for his relentless fight against banditry in the region. “Col. Osuake has shown commendable bravery in his efforts to restore peace, and we deeply appreciate his commitment,” he added.

As the Dokan Karji community continues to grapple with the devastating impact of bandit attacks, their appeal highlights the urgent need for decisive military action to bring an end to the violence and ensure the safety of their residents.
