Manchester United is reportedly exploring a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in a deal that could involve struggling Red Devils forward Joshua Zirkzee heading to Italy.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen has been a standout performer this season, netting eight goals and providing four assists in just nine appearances. Despite his success in Turkey, the Nigerian international is expected to return to Napoli next summer, with no indication that his loan spell will end prematurely in January.
Frozen out of Napoli's squad after a failed permanent transfer during the summer, Osimhen was linked with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and even clubs in Saudi Arabia. However, the 25-year-old rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League, opting to stay in European football.
Chelsea and Arsenal remain interested in the prolific striker, but Manchester United has reportedly joined the race. According to journalist Gerardo Fasano, the Red Devils' new head coach Ruben Amorim is eager to bring Osimhen to Old Trafford.
Amorim is said to be considering a player-plus-cash deal involving Zirkzee, who has struggled to make an impact this season. Zirkzee has failed to score since the opening match of the Premier League campaign, raising questions about his long-term future at the club.
“Manchester United is said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen,” Fasano stated. “Amorim is testing the waters for Osimhen as an alternative to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, who may be too costly.”
Manchester United’s attacking options have been underwhelming, with Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund managing just three goals between them this season. While Swedish forward Gyokeres remains a primary target, Osimhen has emerged as a genuine alternative.
The Nigerian striker boasts an impressive record of 76 goals and 18 assists in 133 matches for Napoli, highlighting his pedigree as a top-tier forward. If Napoli shows interest in Zirkzee, a swap deal could provide the perfect solution for both clubs.
