In a significant step towards addressing the challenge of out-of-school children, the Arewa Community of Ifo Local Government held a massive Quranic graduation ceremony over the weekend.
The event marked the success of efforts to integrate Western education with Islamic knowledge and skill acquisition to combat the issue.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Ogun State on Inter-Ethnic Affairs Hadi Sani emphasized that the event was a testament to the effectiveness of technical sensitization programs aimed at mitigating the out-of-school children in the state.
“Our consistent mandate to blend Islamic teachings with Western education and vocational skills ,” Hadi said.
Hadi, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the state government and the Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children adding that this partnership is a “productive strategy towards taking children off the streets and drastically reducing the number of out-of-school children.”
“By combining Western education with Islamic teachings and skill acquisition, we are creating a holistic approach that addresses both spiritual and practical needs."
Hadi Sani noted that sensitization efforts have been critical in changing mindsets within the Arewa community and beyond.
“Many families now understand that Western education does not conflict with Islamic values. This realization is key to ensure that children are enrolled and retained in schools,” he explained.
