In a significant breakthrough against child trafficking, the Imo State Police Command has apprehended a 36-year-old suspect, Mrs. Chinelo Onwuasonya, notorious for child stealing and trafficking.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday at Amajeke Park in Owerri, where Mrs. Onwuasonya was caught with three abducted children: Chinecherem Eze (3), Delight Eze (1), and Okeke Favour (3), all taken from different locations across the state.

Speaking at the police headquarters in Owerri on Thursday, State Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma hailed the arrest as a critical milestone in combating human trafficking. “This operation was carefully executed to ensure the safety of the children and disrupt the suspect’s trafficking network,” Danjuma stated.

The Commissioner confirmed that the rescued children have been safely reunited with their families, offering much-needed relief to the affected households.

“This success underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting children and tackling human trafficking head-on,” Danjuma said. He urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity related to child abduction or trafficking. “Your vigilance is vital in preventing similar incidents,” he added.

The police further reassured residents of their dedication to eradicating child trafficking and related crimes in Imo State, emphasizing continued efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for children.
