“Sack Wike as Minister, and PDP Will Rebound” — Atiku’s Former Aide-OXYGIST

Segun Sowunmi, a notable chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has blamed President Bola Tinubu for the internal crises plaguing the PDP. Sowunmi criticized Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) without consulting PDP elders.

Appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Sowunmi argued that the appointment of Wike, a key PDP figure, to a ministerial position in an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration undermined the party’s cohesion and ignored its internal protocols.

“President Tinubu is the root of PDP’s problems. He had no business appointing Wike without consulting the elders of our party,” Sowunmi stated.

He drew a contrast with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who, when forming a government of national unity, ensured dialogue with party leaders to maintain respect and harmony within the party structure.

Sowunmi believes that removing Wike from his ministerial role would stabilize the PDP and strengthen its momentum.

“If Tinubu wants PDP to regain its footing, he should sack Wike and allow him to return to the party. That would restore our stamina and enable us to move forward,” he added.

The former Atiku spokesman emphasized the need for respect and collaboration in political appointments, urging that PDP elders be consulted on matters that affect the party’s future.

“My position is clear. I’ve explained and justified it: for PDP to regain unity and strength, Wike must return,” Sowunmi concluded.
