Amid speculation that Netflix might pull out of the Nigerian market, actress Bolaji Ogunmola has voiced her concerns about the potential impact on the local film industry. Sharing her thoughts on social media, Ogunmola shed light on the financial and logistical hurdles filmmakers face when relying exclusively on cinemas for movie releases.

“Again... Everyone will be forced to put their films in cinemas," she wrote. "Going to the cinema is crazy expensive, and there’s no guarantee you’ll make your money back. People are focused on feeding their families, not necessarily spending on cinemas unless it’s a special occasion.”

The actress also offered a playful take on the packed slate of films expected to hit Nigerian cinemas next year. “Omo, una go watch film for cinema next year tire... The lineup??? Crazy!!! God abeg. Why did I come at this time?”

Ogunmola’s comments echo the concerns of many in the Nigerian film industry, where streaming platforms like Netflix have provided an alternative avenue for filmmakers to showcase their work without the high risks associated with cinema releases.

The rumor of Netflix exiting the Nigerian market has sparked widespread discussions, with many highlighting the platform’s role in amplifying local content and providing global exposure for Nollywood productions.
