Nollywood actress Chioma Akpotha has shared how she had to learn Yoruba for her role in the Netflix series Seven Doors, which premiered on December 13.
Chioma takes on the character of Queen Amaka, an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king, portrayed by Femi Adebayo. The series explores themes of kingship, family, love, betrayal, and restitution, with her role requiring fluency in Yoruba.
In a recent interview on TVC alongside co-star Femi Adebayo, Chioma opened up about the challenges of mastering the language.
“I had to learn Yoruba for my role in Seven Doors. The Yoruba in the movie was not the regular one spoken in Lagos State, so I had to be very particular about the tone,” she revealed.
Chioma’s portrayal of Queen Amaka, a strong and resourceful queen navigating palace politics in the Ilara Kingdom, has received widespread acclaim for its authenticity and depth.
The limited series, which has been praised for its engaging storyline and stellar performances, features a cast of Nollywood stars, including Kolawole Ajeyemi, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, Hafiz Oyetoro, and Dele Odule.
With its compelling narrative and standout acting, Seven Doors continues to captivate audiences on Netflix.
