The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected gunrunner, Sunday Moses, aged 34, and recovered a cache of weapons, including 364 rounds of live ammunition and two hand grenades.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, revealed that the suspect was apprehended while allegedly smuggling ammunition into the state.
As part of efforts to ensure safety during the yuletide season and the ongoing harvest period, the police have intensified operations, including visibility policing, raids on criminal hideouts, and stop-and-search initiatives across Adamawa.
“These operations, which began on December 1, 2024, in various areas within the state, have yielded positive results,” Nguroje said. “One Sunday Moses, a 34-year-old resident of Kwatau village in Hong Local Government Area, was arrested for secretly importing ammunition into the state.”
The suspect’s arrest led to the recovery of the following weapons:
- 193 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition
- 171 rounds of 9x19mm pistol ammunition
- Two hand grenades
The police also dislodged several criminal hideouts in metro areas and extended their operations to Song, Gombi, and Hong local government areas to curb criminal activities and prevent regrouping.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, expressed appreciation for the public’s support in the fight against crime and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
“Together, we can ensure peace and security across Adamawa State and beyond,” CP Morris assured.
