The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly torturing civilians at the Seme Border Command. The video, which sparked public outrage, has led to the identification and arrest of two officers: Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Hussain Abdullahi, it was confirmed that the implicated officers have been handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation.
“These officers have been arrested and transferred to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation,” Abdullahi said.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, condemned the officers’ actions, describing them as a violation of the Service’s core values of professionalism and integrity. He directed the transfer of the case to NCS Headquarters for a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary measures.
“The Service remains committed to transparency and will not condone misconduct within its ranks,” the statement emphasized.
The NCS urged those affected by the incident to cooperate with the ongoing investigation to ensure justice is served.
“We call on the complainants to provide any relevant information that can aid the inquiry,” the statement added.
