A Nigerian man residing in the United States, Oluwole Adegboruwa, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in drug trafficking.
According to a statement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, Adegboruwa and his accomplice, Enrique Isong, orchestrated a multi-million-dollar drug trafficking operation via the dark web. Both individuals received 40-year prison sentences for their crimes.
Adegboruwa's sentence includes 30 years of imprisonment, lifetime supervised release, and the forfeiture of over $20 million in assets. This forfeiture represents one of the largest in the history of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, holding the defendant financially accountable for his actions.
U.S. District Court Judge Jill N. Parish delivered the sentences following a jury’s May 2024 verdict, which found Adegboruwa and Isong guilty of multiple federal offenses, including conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and money laundering.
