Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has identified Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze’s underwhelming performances as one of the reasons for AC Milan’s struggles this season.
Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal last summer, arriving with high expectations after registering 37 goals and 31 assists in 207 appearances for the Spanish side. However, the 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Serie A, failing to replicate his impressive form from Spain.
This season, AC Milan has been underperforming, sitting in eighth place after 15 games in Serie A. Among Italy's traditional top clubs, Milan has scored the fewest goals, highlighting their offensive challenges.
Discussing Milan’s difficulties, Fabio Capello emphasized the need for a dynamic right-sided winger to balance the team’s attack. “A tall, attacking winger capable of making a difference was essential. Milan has historically pushed more from the left, and a similar player on the right would have been useful. Unfortunately, Chukwueze has never really clicked, and there is no alternative with similar characteristics,” Capello stated, as reported by Milan.it.
Chukwueze’s shaky performances have already sparked rumors of a potential departure. If the Nigerian forward fails to improve his form, he could be facing an exit as early as next summer.
